Die Schufa will soziale Netzwerke als Datenquelle zur Beurteilung der Kreditwürdigkeit nutzen. Wie das Radioprogramm NDR Info berichtet, lässt die Auskunftei dafür am Hasso-Plattner-Institut der Universität Potsdam (HPI) Projektvorschläge entwickeln. Herangezogen werden könnten die Kontakte von Facebook-Mitgliedern, um Zusammenhänge mit der Kreditwürdigkeit der Verbraucher zu finden. Texte könnten analysiert werden, um "ein aktuelles Meinungsbild zu einer Person zu ermitteln". Untersucht werden könnte auch, wie die Schufa über eigene Facebook-Profile oder Twitter-Accounts verdeckt an "Adressen und insbesondere Adressänderungen" anderer Nutzer gelangen kann. Ebenso werde überlegt, Personen öffentlichen Interesses, Verbraucherschützer und Journalisten automatisch zu identifizieren.
