Rand Paul konnte das neue Gesetz zwei Tage lang aufhalten. Nun speichert die NSA nicht mehr direkt, sondern die Vorratsdatenspeicherung ist privatisiert.

Heute Nacht hat der US-Senat mit 67 zu 32 Stimmen den (eher bedingt beschreibend benannten) USA Freedom Act verabschiedet, der vorher das Repräsentantenhaus mit 338 zu 88 Stimmen passierte. Das Gesetz sieht vor, dass künftig die US-Telekommunikationsprovider die Kommunikationsdaten ihrer amerikanischen Kunden speichern müssen, damit der Geheimdienst NSA darauf zugreifen kann. Ob er das im Einzelfall darf, sollen Geheimgerichte entscheiden.
